It is an exciting year and caucus is the first step to selecting a Republican presidential nominee. And we need YOUR help! Attend your caucus on Tuesday, March 1st and meet with neighbors, vote for a presidential candidate, get elected as a delegate, or sign up to volunteer! Be a part of the grassroots! Your caucus location will be at Sauk Rapids-Rice High School 1835 Osauka Road, Sauk Rapids, MN
Who can attend a caucus? Precinct caucuses are open to the public and as a grassroots organization, we depend on your involvement! In order to vote, offer resolutions, or become a delegate, you must:
Be eligible to vote in the fall election – November 8, 2016
Live in the precinct.
Be in agreement with the principles of the Republican Party and plan to vote for a Republican for president. NOTE: There is no official party registration process here in Minnesota.
What happens at a caucus?
Elect precinct officers who work to organize political activities in the precinct. This could include maintaining contact lists, convening political meetings and helping with campaign efforts.
Discuss issues and ideas for the party to support. People may bring resolutions, which are ideas or proposed changes to the Party Platform or Constitution to be discussed and voted on.
Vote for the person you want the Party to support for president. This year’s straw poll is a binding vote that will influence how many delegates each candidate receives. So it is important you attend – each vote counts!
Elect delegates to represent your precinct at upcoming political conventions. In the months following the precinct caucuses various conventions will be held to endorse candidates and to elect delegates.
The first to hold conventions are our Party units – the Basic Political Operating Units or BPOUs – this is where candidates for state legislative offices – State House or Senate – will be endorsed. Also, a smaller number of delegates will be elected to go to the congressional and state conventions.
At the Congressional District Convention these delegates will endorse a congressional district candidate. They will also elect delegates to go to the State Convention, as well as select 3 National Delegates to attend the National Convention.
