There are numerous reasons, the least obvious reason, however, is potentially the most important. Local officials tend to make great candidates for the state legislature and other offices; they are the farm team or feeder system for state races. Local officials have high positive name recognition, a list of lawn sign locations, contributors and volunteers and experience running a campaign.
The Benton County Republicans have established a candidate search committee. Our goal is to develop a list of potential candidates for elected and appointed office. This will be an ongoing endeavor. Our appeal to you is, would you be interested, if not now perhaps in the future, to run for a position in government. If not then perhaps you know of someone who would make a good candidate. Many times folks just don’t think of running for office but with encouragement might do so. We don’t want just anybody but rather someone who is for limited, constitutional government and is of good moral character, someone you could be proud to promote.
